10 Fashion Textiles and Design

Fashion and Textiles Design is a dynamic and creative subject offered in Year 10. Ākonga will build upon their existing machine stitching skills and be introduced to fabric manipulation techniques, learning how to follow sewing patterns and explore various methods for applying designs to fabric. Through the iterative design process, ākonga will design and construct a range of products, including products and/or wearable fashion garments. Ākonga will work on portfolio-based projects, requiring effective time management and independent planning to achieve their best possible outcomes. This subject not only fosters creativity and technical skill but also encourages ākonga to consider sustainable practices in their design processes. Year 10 Fashion textiles and design prepares students for NCEA level 1 Fashion textiles and Design in Year 11.
